RuneScape did not see an in-game update this week, to some this was a surprise. However we can likely all predict why, and I am sure we all whole heartedly understand and appreciate the need for this to have happened. In a message written on the official RuneScape website they stated that "The impact of the coronavirus means we’re entering uncharted territory", they likened it to a quest however this was one without a guide to follow. We can look at other nations, and how they are dealing with it, but ultimately we are all learning day by day.
Understandably Jagex has to protect their staff, they are their top priority. Following government advice, they instructed as many JMods as possible to work from home, and we again and thankful for this. The UK has not been a great example in all of this, people loved flouting the advice and rules given by the government however Jagex took a pretty early step in following this advice and potentially saved lives in the process. They did state however that some essential staff remain in the games studio, and though from a glance they make not seem "essential workers", they are providing entertainment to hundreds of thousands of players every day during this time of uncertainty. We thank them for this.
While work may be done from home, it does not mean things can carry on as normal. It will cause delays if nothing else. They stated that there would be fewer game updates, and less livestreams but stated that ultimately they do not expect any major changes from what they had planned in their year view.
We appreciate their efforts, and we appreciate your efforts too. Please, please, stay at home unless essential. If you wish, binge RuneScape! Even if that means you do not use our software for a short while. You are a valued user, we must stand together through this.
