16th January: we have developed a fully working update that has flawlessly run several different test scripts for over 48 hours. Due to certain technical and legal complications we cannot release it to the public just yet. However please check back because we will go live very soon!

Why has the deadline changed?

Jagex have released several incremental updates to the client in attempt to make it harder for bots to operate. We cannot disclose too much technical information but we can confirm that a recent major change has set our progress back. We anticipate that there is only a limited number of tactics planned for further updates before we will have dissected and analysed every change for the purposes of reverse engineering.

We are very close to releasing a full update but cannot specify when exactly this will happen.


Will RSBot be detectable?

No. Certain other parties are keen to spread misinformation but please disregard any details on bot updates unless it comes directly from a trusted provider of bot software.


Will RSBot script APIs change?

Yes, however we will provide full documentation and additional support to assist script writers in upgrading their code for compatibility with the latest RSBot release.


Is RSBot going to close down?

No, we are committed to providing open source software on powerbot.org and maintaining RSBot development for the foreseeable future. We understand why some people are afraid of this possibility, but unlike our past competitors we are not here to troll our visitors with fake deadlines and nasty surprises. We believe in transparency and engaging with our audience to announce our true progress, however we cannot disclose sensitive information before we are ready to release our working bot.


Is it true another bot was working?

To date no other bot has been updated to be fully functional with scripts. Rest assured that without evidence, any such claims are disputed and subject to much speculation.


Will there be beta versions provided?

No - only our core developers have access to the bot. There will not be any be pre-release version for script writers, staff members or beta testers. When RSBot is ready to go public it will be released for everybody at the same time.
Please be cautious about fake RSBot beta versions as they will not be genuine and may cause damage to your computer with viruses.

I sincerely apologise for this late announcement, I really do. We have been having some technical issues with our server which started with a DDoS attack. We are glad to say we are back online.

As you will all have undoubtedly heard, RuneScape has been updated in a way that they have said will break reflection bots forever. After looking at their update it has became seemingly clear that this was more than we expected from Jagex, and we praise them on their work. However, we would also like to add that this won’t have any long term effect on any current botting client. Whilst other sites can be passing this off as a ‘publicity stunt’ on Jagex’s part, it is apparent that Jagex merely underestimated the time, dedication and effort.

The RuneScape update has indeed been interesting. In order to play the game it is now a requirement to have a relatively recent version of Java. Most of you will have this, if you experience any difficulties trying to load the game, Java is free and you can easily google it and download the latest version.

We are in a way glad that RuneScape have decided to do this as they are currently offering a lot of fun activities in game along with some relatively substantial rewards such as XP or tokens. We here at RSBot do not want to ruin your game experience in any way and we to a point support Jagex. However, we don’t see you using bots to progress in game as a bad thing. During our bot updating, we hope you will explore RuneScape without a bot, join in some events and even have fun playing legitimately!

Now onto what you want to hear (or maybe not!). The software we use to update the bot needs to be recoded massively due to the update. This is because the RuneScape client has gone from object orientated code to large arrays. Whilst this in no way stops us from being able to update, we do wish to take our time updating to give you a chance to explore the game and even do things you would usually just bot . We suspect the update to take 14-28days (from the 25th October) and during this time, we will be working with Gold4Fun to try and get some nice give-a-ways and competitions solely to the powerbot community. Please note this is just an estimated time and may change at any time. We have to give our self room for error and such. From this update, RSBot will grow stronger for it was Ralph Emerson that said 'We acquire the strength we have overcome.'

It may also comfort you to know that we will be working hard during this time on our new project, RSBot 3. We believe RSBot 3 will set a new standard in the botting industry and will be the bot all others are compared to. This does not mean RSBot 3 will be released when our bot is back, but it does mean we will be able to make far more progress than we would usually make in that amount of time. As always, RSBot 3 is open-source.
